  • Supporting clients in navigating institutional oppression in healthcare access

My work as a therapist, educator and consultant is founded in social justice and anti-oppression values. My facilitation style is experiential and conversational, providing engagement for learners who benefit from more than lecture. My services are currently available via online video conferencing. I am happy to provide references for individuals who are familiar with my work and experience.

Current Training Offerings

The following trainings and workshops are ones I am currently offering regularly. Organizations and groups can request a private and/or customized facilitation of any of these offerings as well.

  • This workshop will increase victim service providers’ knowledge on issues faced by transgender and nonbinary victims, as well as common barriers transgender and nonbinary victims face in accessing care. We will explore ways victim service providers can provide more Trans-competent services to increase access for transgender and nonbinary victims. Additional resources for continued learning, as well as others that can be offered as client referrals will be provided. A minimum of 1 hour is required for this offering and would allow for a 50-minute lecture style presentation with powerpoint and 10 minutes of Q&A. Windows up to 2 hours allow for additional material, experientials and example cases. **

This offering can be expanded to be inclusive of other communities underneath the LGBTQIA+ umbrella, rather than solely focused on transgender, nonbinary and gender expansive victims. (Example of presentation previously provided: LGBTQIA+ Specific Victim Service Issues: Increasing Bias Awareness to Reduce Barriers to Care).

Further, the audience focus can be expanded to other groups and environments. Similar presentations have been provided to educators, undergraduate and graduate classrooms, health care professionals, activist groups and more. (Example of presentation previously provided to an undergraduate sociology course: A Critical Look at the Ways Institutional Bias Contributes to the Erasure of LGBTQIA+ victims of crimes).

  • This workshop increases participants’ awareness of common themes and dynamics present in LGBTQIA+ relationships in which Intimate Partner Abuse is occurring. We also explore various stereotypes and biases that can prevent LGBTQIA+ individuals from receiving support related to the impact of Intimate Partner Abuse. **

The audience focus for this presentation can be expanded beyond fields that may refer to individuals they work with as “clients.” Similar presentations have been provided in various settings. Reach out with questions regarding how this workshop can be shifted to fit your audience.

  • This workshop explores demographic disparities in the mental health field, both from the perspective of lack of diversity among providers as well as lack of access to care for members of marginalized communities. Participants will increase their knowledge on the ways institutional and systemic oppression contribute to the ever-deepening chasm between need for care and access to competent resources. We will explore ethical obligations of therapists related to cultural competency and care provided to various marginalized communities. Participants are further invited to examine how their own intersecting identities, both privileged and marginalized, impact the care they provide, as well as how those identities intersect with those of their clients. Participants leave with resources for continued learning in ethical care of marginalized communities. A minimum of 1 hour is required for this offering and would allow for a 50-minute lecture style presentation with powerpoint and 10 minutes of Q&A. Larger windows of time allow for additional material, experientials and example cases.

The audience focus of this workshop can be expanded to other groups and environments. (Example of presentation previously provided to an interdisciplinary health care team in a residential setting: The Importance of Multicultural Competency in Helping Professions).

  • This workshop increases participants’ awareness of the overlap of oppression and trauma from an individual, collective, and intergenerational context. We will examine known physiological responses to trauma, health impacts of long-term and repeated trauma, and the ways various forms of oppression can result in similar embodied experience. Participants will leave with resources to assist in continued learning about embodied oppression, the trauma of oppression, and practices to shift our own ways of being in the world to reduce collective trauma. A minimum of 1 hour is required for this offering and would allow for a 50-minute lecture style presentation with powerpoint and 10 minutes of Q&A. Windows up to 2 hours allow for additional material and experientials.

This workshop is most commonly offered to audiences that include both privileged and marginalized identities and experience with both experiences being a focus of the presentation. It can be shifted to focus on individuals in places of privilege wanting to better understand the ways oppression impacts marginalized communities and steps to take to shift how they contribute to oppression. Further, this workshop can also be shifted to focus on offering individuals from marginalized communities a greater awareness of the embodiment of oppression and somatic approaches to healing trauma.

**Please Note: Although I can provide handouts and resources that cover “101” type information (such as definitions of terminology) upon request with these offerings, we will not be discussing introductory-level information in this workshop. Should you want this information to be included, please reach out to discuss what options are available.

Professional Consultation & Training Rates

I believe we should all prioritize experts and trainers with lived experience in the areas they are speaking to or providing training around, particularly when the focus is on a marginalized community. If I am not qualified, I will happily refer you to colleagues who can better meet your training needs.

In addition to prioritizing receiving training from experts with lived experience, I believe that we should be financially supporting those individuals and their work. I have this expectation of myself when pursuing training from other experts, and have moved into setting the expectation that those interested in my training and consultation services value and financially support my expertise.

My consultation and training fee is $250 per hour, plus travel when relevant. I prorate by the half-hour as needed. There may be additional costs for preparation time depending on the request. Additionally, this fee may vary depending on the request, including fees for short notice requests. Longer-term consulting requests may be priced as packages.

Clinical Supervision & Consultation

I offer single and ongoing clinical consultation services for therapist colleagues based in the U.S. Clinical consultation is $175 per hour and can be prorated by the half-hour as needed.

I am offering individual clinical supervision for therapists who feel their clinical ethics and values align with mine and believe their training and educational needs are likely to be better met through clinical supervision with a clinician like me. If, after learning about my practice and experience on this site, you feel a may be a good fit for your clinical supervision needs, please reach out via the contact form.

Additionally, please reach out if interested in joining a clinical supervision and consultation group for LGBTQIA+ clinicians seeking clinical support in working with LGBTQIA+ clients. Co-facilitated with my colleague, Mo Bankey, LPC.

Let’s Connect

If you’re interested in discussing how my trainings, professional consultation, or clinical supervision and consultation can support your work, please contact me.

I will happily schedule a call or virtual meeting should you benefit from talking through your needs related to your request.

As my schedule and circumstances allow, I am able to offer reduced rates or pro bono time for professional and clinical consultation to students and new therapists with need. I prioritize offering consultation support to fellow queer and trans clinicians, as well as members of other marginalized communities in exchanging or reducing rates for consultation.

Organizational Non-Profit Status is not an indicator of reduced ability to pay and I do not prioritize non-profits in my reduced rate or pro-bono work. I do not accept exposure and marketing the event as payment for services by organizations.
